Registered children's homes

The organisation now has three homes in Kent, and has put two further homes to Ofsted for registration. Of the existing homes, two are for young people aged 13-17 with emotional and behavioural problems, and can offer four beds each. The third is a four bedded home for young people aged 12-17 with learning disabilities and associated complex needs.

The two new homes are in the South East london area. One is a five bedded home for young people with emotional and behavioural problems, the other a six bedded home for young people with learning disabilities and associated complex needs. Both will have a facility for respite and emergency admissions.

The homes are registered with OFSTED. There is a Statement of Purpose & Function, and standard policies and procedures available to those who wish to place children in the homes; parents, carers and significant others. The homes are staffed on a 24 hour basis with either waking night staff or sleep in staff on duty over night.

Individual support...

We employ a number of qualified teachers and learning support assistants who work intensively with the child to help them achieve goals and develop an individual program of self development.

The residential and educational environments are separate to help the student to differentiate between the two. The children's residential accommodation is staffed 24 hours a day with waking staff at night.

The units seek to provide a more flexible and informal environment than typical children's homes. Children are encouraged to take greater responsibility of their own care and undertake an education and activity based weekly programme aimed at developing their relationships with both peers and adults and promoting choice and a broadening of personal, community and social knowledge. Our primary task is to increase the young peoples' sense of achievement and self esteem.

Clear & consistant...

The project will design and provide individual packages of care to reflect the needs of the individual and can provide a wide range of opportunities in education, emotional development, health, work experience, self care and leisure.

This service is particularly beneficial for young people with a history of disruptive behaviour, who need an intensive level of personal support and need clear and consistent boundaries to contain challenging behaviour. In time the young person will be encouraged and fully supported in managing with less support and to move towards taking greater responsibility for themselves in a supported accommodation environment.

We have certain rooms within the homes that are alarmed, alerting the carer of movement via a pager. This allows the staff to monitor the movement of the more challenging young people from a distance, allowing the young person their privacy and facilitating supported development.
